The Namibian Prison Service as an integrated part of justice system contributes to the protection of society by providing reasonable, safe, secure and humane custody of offenders in accordance with universally acceptable standards, while assisting them in their rehabilitation, reformation and social reintegration as acceptable law abiding citizens.

2. Community Service conference in Tsumeb June 20-21 at Minen Hotel.  One day seminar for mass media professionals on launching of Community Service (June 21st).

3. Unit Management Pilot Project at Windhoek Prison (from April to end of September 2005).

1. There is a little more than 1000 staff members;

2. We have more than 4400 offenders in custody (sentenced or awaiting trial);

3. NPS manages 13 prisons;
